Sulfonation in the Synthesis of Sulfanilic Acid

Sulfonation is a crucial reaction in the synthesis of Sulfanilic Acid, an important precursor for azo dyes, optical brighteners, and sulfa drugs. The process involves the electrophilic substitution of sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) onto aniline, introducing a sulfonic (-SO₃H) group. Reaction Conditions: Heat to 180–200°C
