Diethanolamine (DEA) (CAS NO : 111-42-2)

Diethanolamine (DEA) is a multifunctional secondary amine and a dialcohol. In the Industrial Chemicals, Beauty & Personal Care, and Agrochemical hierarchies, a foundational "workhorse" chemical. Diolamine unique ability to act as both a weak base and an alcohol allows it to function as a highly efficient gas scrubber, a surfactant precursor, and a neutralizing agent in hundreds of industrial formulations. Source High-Purity Diethanolamine (CAS 111-42-2) from Scimplify, your authoritative global manufacturer and wholesale supplier of alkanolamines. this bifunctional compound is a critical gas sweetening agent and surfactant intermediate used extensively in the oil, gas, and detergent industries. Our bulk Diethanolamine is engineered for high-performance acid gas removal (AGR), efficiently scrubbing H₂S and CO₂ from refinery streams. As a leading alkanolamine supplier, we provide 2,2'-Iminodiethanol that serves as a vital neutraliser in cosmetic formulations and a primary building block for glyphosate herbicides and textile lubricants. Whether you are formulating corrosion inhibitors or high-efficiency metalworking fluids, Scimplify ensures global regulatory compliance, providing consistent viscosity, COA/SDS transparency, and reliable bulk lead times

Chemical Properties & Specifications

Applications of Diethanolamine (DEA)

Oil & Gas: Gas Sweetening & Carbon Capture

Standard aqueous solution used in the "Amine Scrubbing" process. It removes acidic contaminants (H,S and COz) from natural gas and refinery off-gases through a reversible chemical reaction, ensuring the gas meets pipeline specifications and environmental standards

Beauty & Personal Care: Surfactant Precursor

To Manufacture Diethanolamides (like Cocamide DEA), which act as foam stabilizers, viscosity builders, and emulsifiers in shampoos, liquid soaps, and bubble baths. Serves as a mild pH adjuster in various skin care products

Agrochemicals: Glyphosate Synthesis

Intermediate in the production of Glyphosate. Assists in the formation of the salt-based active ingredient, ensuring high water solubility and leaf penetration

Have Questions About Diethanolamine (DEA)?
We've Got Answers.

Not at all. DEA has a relatively high freezing point for a liquid (28°C). This is a natural physical change. Simply move the drums to a heated warehouse or use a drum heater to gently warm the material until it returns to a clear liquid state. Avoid localized overheating above 50°C to prevent thermal degradation.

DEA is prone to yellowing when exposed to oxygen. We utilize nitrogen-blanketed filling lines and high-grade stainless steel storage to ensure an APHA color of ≤ 15 and negligible iron content, which is critical for customers in the Beauty and Personal Care sectors.

In the USA and EU, DEA is allowed as a pH adjuster and intermediate. However, there are strict limits on the formation of nitrosamines. We ensure our DEA has minimal Monoethanolamine (MEA) and Triethanolamine (TEA) cross-contamination to help formulators meet safety compliance standards.

While both are alkanolamines, DEA is a secondary amine and is generally less reactive but more stable than MEA. It is often preferred in refinery applications because it has a lower vapor pressure (less chemical loss) and is less corrosive to equipment, though it requires different circulation rates.
